Hom-Pisano provided engineering analysis as well as member and connection design for The Exploratorium’s LIFT exhibit. The LIFT exhibit consists of a 100-foot-long cable structure supported by a hollow steel tube frame.  The intent of the exhibit is to provide the viewer with a physical model of varying wind patterns and pressures (see website for further description).  The structure has been installed on the roof of an historical building on Fort Mason’s Pier 1 and was designed as fully self-supporting so as to eliminate the impact of the cable tension on the existing building.  Special bolted splices of the lower support beam were designed to allow for modular construction.
