Description
Treat Ave is a new multifamily project in the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco. The project consists of two independent buildings each with four stories and three living units. The upper two-level penthouse unit within each building features a double-height living room and a private roof deck affording panoramic views of Twin Peaks and Sutro Tower to the west and downtown San Francisco to the east.
The unique architectural design and triangular shaped lot presented several structural design challenges including cantilevered floors and decks, long-span floor framing and carrying beams, discontinuous shear walls and non-orthogonal lateral systems. The presence of weak near-surface soil and artificial fill necessitated the use of drilled, cast-in-place concrete piers and grade beams to support the building loads.
